These are current projects. No trees are available for sale. Pits are not for sale. Please check back for photos as they become available.
Phytophtera Resistance Series: 2016 selection trials are currently underway in land where multiple avocado trees have previously died. Some trees are dying and some aren't. Almost 900 pits are in this trial presently. As of July 2016, there are 42 candidate trees, with more possible as planting is only about half-way. As of October 2016, dryland selection started for remaining trees. Selection will continue through fruit production for remaining trees.
Cold-Hardiness Series: This selection is taking place in a zone 8 alpine forest in California. Winter 2015-2016 has already occurred. Only one tree was able to survive the first snowfall. It failed to survive the winter.
Pits for the 2016-2017 trials are planted. Fourty trees started this selection cycle. After the first (trace) snowfall, 6 trees were left.
The current frontrunner from the 2016 Phytophtera test bed. It was originally surrounded by avocado seedlings that have since died. It and several more candidates will now be grown dryland to fruiting to taste-test the avocado quality.
